Let’s Play War

directed by Meelis Muhu, Estonia 2016, 81'

  • Meelis Muhu returns to the question of today's historical memory in the countries of the former USSR by observing reconstructors in action, who meticulously recreate the battles of World War II. Playing war looks very serious: enthusiasts of historical reconstruction play the role of their grandparents with obsessive attention to detail. They make uniforms, vehicles, and even military documents all based on old photos while their wives play the role of cooks and nurses – all of this just to wholly sink into the historical illusion. The battlefield will be watched by many spectators – it is thus fitting to demonstrate a far-reaching commitment.
