It’s Hard to Get to Bródno

Based on motifs from Paria by Stanisław Moniuszko

  • Cezary Tomaszewski
    • One of the most interesting contemporary Polish theatrical directors, choreographers and performers, and this year he has been nominated for Polityka’s Passport Award. He studied theatre at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw and choreography at the Bruckner Konservatorium in Linz. Earlier, he completed the J. Elsner State Music School No. 2 in Warsaw. For his auteur take on Lehar’s operetta The Merry Widow – in which he cast four Polish cleaners – he received an honorary mention from Theater Heute and Falter magazines as the best young director and for the best off-theatrical production in Austria in 2009. The artist often seeks inspiration in visual arts and popular culture. He has been renowned for his productions for Capella Cracoviensis in Krakow. He played works by Monteverdi in the fast food bar, where he served dumplings and fruit compôte (Barokowa uczta, 2012), and staged works by Mendelssohn in the Wolski Woods in Krakow to give the public an opportunity to listen to music an plein air (Mendelssohn: Naturzyści, 2012).
