Hamlet Lavastida (Cuba)

Hamlet Lavastida

was born in Havana in 1983 and graduated from the San Alejandro National School of Fine Arts in Havana. He engages with the subject of Cuba's political future, primarily in terms of the misapprehensions which propaganda introduces into the understanding of the role of society. Working on “the archaeology of communism,” Hamlet strives to carry out a diagnosis of the Cuban social identity. As a fundamental tool of political propaganda, text plays a leading role in his work.

The residency has been organized in collaboration with Zachęta Project Room, and supported by the City of Warsaw and Lech Wałęsa Institute Foundation.
