residency: January–February 2004

Isabelle Arthuis (France)

Isabelle Arthuis

derives inspiration to her photograhy from Brazilian abstract painting of 1950s and 'néoconstructivismo carioca' movement. A book published in Warsaw during her residency stay at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, is a collection of photographs taken by her during her stay in Rio de Janeiro. She meant to capture possible sources of inspiration for Brazilian abstractionists, to record forms of reality which could have affected them.

This residency was realised in cooperation with the French Institute in Warsaw and Galerie Le Plateau.
