residency: March–May 2018

Juan Duque (Colombia/Belgium)

Juan Duque

was born in Medellìn, Colombia, in 1974. He lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. Duque is a member-researcher at a.pass (Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies) Brussels, and an associate of the BAM (Flemish Institute for Visual, Audiovisual and Media Art). He is an architect and an artist who through his performative and conceptual practice raises the issues of urban mapping (especially urban projects in the Latin-American city context), urban renewal, phenomenology of contemporary landscape or cultural aspects of urban architecture.

Duque is interested in stimulating the time and space we share with other bodies and objects. He achieves that via subtle interventions regarding space and through the use of installations, but first and foremost his method consists in the performative and conceptual acts he refers to as "physical negotiations". The residency at U–jazdowski will grant him an opportunity to research the urban landscape of Warsaw and to carry out his physical negotiations with space, objects, architecture and other bodies.
