Talk with Barbara Steiner, head director of Kunsthaus Graz

within the frames of Curating Institution series

  • Dr. Barbara Steiner
    • art historian, curator at the Kunsthaus in Graz. Formerly, a long-time Director of the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst in Leipzig; from 2015, she has been lecturing for the Master's Program of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. Initiator and curator of many transnational and transcultural projects, including "Europe (to the Power of) N," during which curators from ten cities—Brussels, Istanbul, London, Łódź, Mińsk, Novi Sad, Høvikodden/Oslo, San Sebastián and Taipei—together with the invited artists (with the support of the European Union Culture Programme, Robert Bosch Stiftung and Allianz KulturStiftung) created scenarios and visions of the future of Europe, talked about its crises, values, the importance and role of contemporary art as well as its production in the global world. Author of numerous essays in the field of criticism and theory of art, institutional, art and economic theory—including Creative Infidelities (Berlin 2016), The Captured Museum / Das eroberte Museum (Berlin 2011), Thinking Europe (Berlin 2012, ed.), The Scenario Book (Berlin 2012, ed.).
