Renovations at Ujazdowski

The adaptation of the cellars into an open warehouse of the collection, reconstruction of the gallery and access road, as well as the modernization of the cinema and office spaces are investments carried out by the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle. Some of the works involve hindrances to the public.

The decision to rebuild the Ujazdowski Castle into its current edifice was made in the 1970s. It was built on the basis of earlier plans on historic foundations; however, the area around the Castle was never fully modernized. In order to increase the functionality of the space as well as to create new spaces, we have undertaken a number of refurbishment activities both inside the building as well as in its immediate surroundings.

  • Ongoing works
    • Adaptation of the cellars into an open warehouse of the collection

      • This investment consists of adapting the rooms in the cellars of the Ujazdowski Castle into storage spaces as well as an exhibition of the International Collection of Contemporary Art belonging to Ujazdowski. With the newly opened warehouse, it will be possible to hold educational meetings and discussions inside the cellars.

      • The works will include replacement of wiring and low-voltage installations, drying of the foundations, installing new doors and windows, and the making of shelves for display and storage. Moreover, the modernization of the floor, walls, ceilings and lighting. The spaces are situated in the cellars in the northwestern part of the Castle. The total area of the rooms is 263.61 m2.

      • The adaptation of the cellars is based on the design of architect Andrzej Jurkiewicz. Date of completion: 2018.

    • Reconstruction of Gallery 1 on the ground floor

      • Works in Gallery 1 consist of improvements: new ceilings, changed lighting, new floors will be built, ventilation and air conditioning will be installed.

      • The final decor is arranged by architect Aleksandra Wasilkowska. The first opening in the new Gallery will be the opening of the exhibition of Ula Sickle in early March 2018.

  • Works planned for 2018
    • Modernization of the cinema at Ujazdowski

      • After last year's renovation, under which seating and carpeting were replaced, the cinema at Ujazdowski gained a new look. Next year's plans include the replacement of lighting and acoustic ceiling treatment as well as the modernization of the electrical system.

      • Responsible for the design and final aesthetic effect is Aleksandra Wasilkowska.

      • Due to the intensity of the works, we will have to temporarily close the cinema in the first quarter of 2018.

      • The renovation of the cinema at Ujazdowski will be co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

    • Rebuilding of the main road accessing Ujazdowski
      • The road leading to the Ujazdowski Castle, along Agrykola, is being rebuilt due to its terrible surface condition.

      • The project is scheduled for spring of 2018. These changes will result in rerouting access to Ujazdowski. We will keep you up to date.

    • Modernization of offices on the 2nd floor

      • The offices of the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, located on the second floor of the building, are outdatedbelonging to another era. They have their charm, but they are neither functional nor suitable for work. The layout of the rooms restricts communication between employees, the quality of the interior design as well as their equipment is poor. There is a lack of daylight in many rooms.

      • We have entrusted the reconstruction of the office spaces to architect Krzysztof Skoczylas.

  • Unfortunately, the implementation of this project will result in inconveniences for the public. We will do our utmost to make the construction work as unobtrusive as possible for our guests. We apologize for the hindrance.
