Meeting with Kuba Mikurda
-
What does the journey from theory to cinema look like? On 11 February in the Cinema, we invite you to a meeting with Kuba Mikurda — documentary filmmaker, lecturer and author of film scholarship publications.
- The starting point for the conversation will be a screening of Solaris Mon Amour, which will open up a discussion about his artistic practice and his transition from academic and theoretical work to film directing.
- Kuba Mikurda is the director of the documentary films Love Express. The Disappearance of Walerian Borowczyk (2018), Escape to the Silver Globe (2021) and Solaris Mon Amour (2023). He studied psychology at Jagiellonian University, philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and film production at Wajda School. His academic and research background forms an important foundation for a filmmaking practice that engages with image, narrative and film history.
- The author of numerous publications, including the philosophical monograph Not-All. Žižek, Dolar, Zupančič, he has also edited books devoted to the work of Walerian Borowczyk, Terry Gilliam, the Quay Brothers, Guy Maddin and Polish surrealist cinema. He lectures at the Film and Television Directing Department of the Łódź Film School. He is a member of the Polish Filmmakers Association, the European Film Academy, the Polish Film Academy and the Guild of Polish Documentary Directors.
- The meeting will offer an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between theoretical thinking and film practice, and on how his background in psychology, philosophy and film studies shapes the language of contemporary documentary.

{Live}
- Every week, we meet live with artists to talk about art: creative processes, works, and current experiences.
- We host both artists who have previously taken part in Ujazdowski Castle’s programme and those making their debut. In this series, we would like to focus on individual approaches and artistic practices.
- Why take part?
- The events will be recorded for archival purposes, and the recordings will be made available online through the Mediateka.
- In times of tensions and crises, thinking and talking together about contemporary art – which responds to today’s challenges in unconventional ways – helps strengthen social resilience. Art is not only the object – just as important are the process, the thinking, the emotions, and the relationships that accompany it. The meetings offer a closer look at how art is created and, most importantly, who creates it.
- Every week, we meet live with artists to talk about art: creative processes, works, and current experiences.
- The meetings are open to everyone, from people working professionally in culture and art, to those who are curious about artists and their work, or simply want to talk about art.
- We do our best to make the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art accessible to everyone – we would like to adapt the event to you and your needs. To help us do that, please contact our accessibility coordinator: dostepnosc@u-jazdowski.pl, no later than the Monday before the event.
