Essa Grayeb (Palestine)
Essa Grayeb is a Palestinian visual artist working across photography, moving image, and installation. Through archival materials, found images, printed ephemera, and everyday cultural artifacts, he creates connections across fragmented histories and geographies, exploring how images and memory are constructed, mediated, and reimagined over time.
His work examines images and narratives of the past and their contemporary interpretations, particularly in relation to Arab nationalism and Pan-Arabism. Drawing on material culture, historical moments, and collective lived experiences, Grayeb investigates questions of historical truth, loss and defeat, the circulation of images across media, and the persistence of political aspirations as they manifest within popular culture and collective memory.
Grayeb's work has been presented internationally, including at Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin; Kunsthaus Graz; De Appel, Amsterdam; the Jakarta Biennale; the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana; and The Mosaic Rooms, London, and The Palestinian Museum, Birzeit. He was a fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program (2025–2026).
