Marta Romankiv (Ukraine/Poland)
Marta Romankiv (born in 1995 in Lviv) is an interdisciplinary artist, sociologist, author of installations, video works and social situations, a lecturer at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. She obtained her Master’s degree from the Academy of Art in Szczecin and the Institute of Sociology at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. She defended her doctoral thesis at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in 2025. She is the recipient of, amongst others, the Maria Anto & Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven International Art Prize (2023) and the Allegro Prize (2020); and a fellow of the Gaude Polonia residency programme run by the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2021). Her works have been exhibited at venues including the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, the Kunsthalle in Rostock, the National Museum in Nuremberg and the National Museum in Chișinău.
In her practice, she primarily addresses social inequality, treating art as a space for imagining alternative futures. She devotes particular attention to the themes of migration, as well as civil and labour rights. Her projects are most often participatory in nature and straddle the boundaries between activism, social sciences and art. Since 2021, she has been actively supporting migrant women from Ukraine by establishing and co-organising the Domestic Workers’ Commission within the framework of the Worker's Initiative Union (Ogólnopolski Związek Zawodowy Inicjatywa Pracownicza).
Marta Romankiv’s residency is taking place as part of her collaboration in a duo with Marta Hryniuk.
