Zhanna Kadyrova's Origami Deer on its way to Venice – Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

The Origami Deer by artist Zhanna Kadyrova (@zhannakad) arrives in Warsaw on 8 March. 

The sculpture from the city of Pokrovsk will be presented as a part of the European public programme of the National Pavilion of Ukraine at the 61st International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia.

The public programme includes:
17:00–18:00 — screening of a documentary short film IDP (dir. Zhanna Kadyrova, 2025), which captures the sculpture's evacuation from Pokrovsk and further discussion with Zhanna Kadyrova and Leonid Marushchak at the Cinema hall of the Ujazdowski Castle.
18:00–19:00 — Discussion Public Art at Risk: Poland and Ukraine. The discussion will be dedicated to the threats posed to the sculptures and monuments in Poland and Ukraine. It will be grounded in the works of Zhanna Kadyrova, The Origami Deer (2019), and the artist Julita Wójcik, Rainbow (2012), moderated by an art historian, Iwona Kurz.

18:30–22:00 — sculpture display at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art.
19:00–22:00 — Music performance at the workshop room of the Ujazdowski Castle.Artists: Zoi Michailova, Ssscreep, Ganna Glass.

Carators of the public program are Katia Khimei, Ivanna Kozachenko.

The Origami Deer sculpture, originally installed in 2019 on the site of a dismantled Soviet nuclear-capable jet, embodies the questions around security guarantees  — a key theme of the project Security Guarantees, curated by Ksenia Malykh and Leonid Marushchak.

The entrance is free and open to everybody.
