Slow

[Tu man nieko neprimeni], directed by Marija Kavtaradze, Lithuania / Spain / Sweden 2023, 108'

Marija Kavtaradze’s film, winner of the Directing Award at Sundance, is a sensual and provocative love story, different from anything ever seen on screens! It embodies passionate cinema where both great direction and acting chemistry are displayed. The film is a Lithuanian candidate for an Oscar.

Elena is a dancer and Dovydas is a sign language interpreter. They both work with their bodies, looking for the best way to express – with dance and the movement of their hands – the subtlest meanings and deepest emotions. They seem made for each other, but instead of a happy ending, Slow opts for the status ‘It’s complicated’. Because Elena loves sex and Dovydas could do without it. They therefore test, full of best intentions, whether love without lust is possible.

Kavtaradze’s film is bold in tackling the subject of new relationship models. It’s an example of passionate cinema that displays both great direction and acting chemistry.
