Sander Breure & Witte van Hulzen

Presentation of works and discussion with the artists

Witte van Hulzen (b. 1984, Bolsward) and Sander Breure (b. 1985, Leiderdorp) work together since 2007 on the production of videos, performances and installations. At the root of their practice lies a continuous engagement with "the other." Using techniques and ideas from the visual arts, cinema, theatre and music, they each time trie to portray and to question what it means to be human in our times. They have had solo exhibitions and performances at several national and international institutions, including Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, 2014), a performance at the ISSUE Project Room (2012, New York), and SMART Project Space (Amsterdam, 2011). They have been included in numerous group exhibitions, including "Prospects and Concepts" (Mondriaan Fonds at Art Rotterdam, 2014), "Room with a view" (International Manifesta Foundation, Amsterdam, 2013), "Less is More, More or Less" (TENT, Rotterdam, 2013). Their video installation "The Shores of an Island I Only Skirted" is being shown at Contour 7 (Mechelen, Belgium, August 28 ñ November 08 2015). They have been awarded the TENT Academy Award and the René Coelho prize in 2009 and are currently nominated for the Volkskrant Beeldende Kunstprijs.
