Do Not Expect Too Much from the End of the World
The acclaimed Romanian director Radu Jude refers to his new production as a combination of comedy and specific road cinema. Juxtaposing the present with the past, the director creates an evocative and provocative image of exploitation, social fragmentation, work and the new economy.
The overworked and underpaid production assistant Angela Raducanu (Ilinca Manolache) has a big task ahead of her. She needs to conduct interviews with candidates for a short film on safety at work, commissioned by a large international corporation.
From early morning, Angela makes her way through Bucharest, trying to complete all the tasks she’s been assigned by the production company.
Apart from conducting the casting, this includes picking up the client’s marketing manager (played by Nina Hoss) from the airport and a few other small production tasks. To make matters worse, the casting doesn’t go Angela’s way, with one of the candidates arguing that her employer is responsible for an accident she’d been in. Little short of a scandal erupting…
