The Influencing Machine

Author's meeting

Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art invites you to the premiere of the book The Influencing Machine, from an anthropologist, art critic and exhibition curator Aaron Moulton. The book includes an analysis of the Soros Centers for Contemporary Art (SCCA) Network, which operated in Central and Eastern Europe in the 1990s. It complements the exhibition which was presented at the Nicodim Gallery in Bucharest in 2019 and at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw in 2022.

During the meeting we will have an opportunity to listen to the author of the book Aaron Multon; Milada Ślizińska, a long-time curator of the international exhibition programme at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art; and Jakub Margasiński, the publication's graphic designer. The discussion will be moderated by Manick Govinda.

During the meeting the publication will be available at a promotional price 25% off.

The meeting will take place in the Workspace, a room behind the Tarabuk Bookshop in the Ujazdowski Castle. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

Aaron Moulton is a curator and anthropologist based in Denmark. His research looks at the ways in which creative expression is purposed and managed by different traditional and non-traditional means ranging from New Age spiritual communities, the global art world, and propaganda initiatives.

      • Produced specially for the launch of The Influencing Machine publication is the debut of a new browser-based artwork from Slovenian artist Sara Bezovšek. The artist treats the SCCA Network archive and all materials connected to The Influencing Machine research study as a dataset. The result is an all-encompassing recursive spiral into The Influencing Machine itself as a cultural entity, a mind map, an epic scroll, and a machine pulling the levers that control our hearts and minds.
