Robert Mikołaj Jurkowski

  • Robert Mikołaj Jurkowski (b. 1966)
    • Artist, educator, teacher, social activist, and cultural animator. Between 1981 and 1985, he attended the Stefan Żeromski Secondary School in Nałęczów. In 1987, together with Paweł Paulus Mazur, he founded the band Kościotrup. In 1988, he began studying art education at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. In 1992, he transferred to the Faculty of Painting at the State Higher School of Fine Arts (PWSSP) in Gdańsk. In 1995, under the supervision of Witosław Czerwonka, he completed his diploma in the field of new media, entitled Transgression as a Proposition in Art.
    • His video works have been presented in Poland and abroad, including at the WRO Festival of Visual and Audio Media Art in Wrocław (1991, 1993), as well as in exhibitions such as Inne Media at Wyspa Gallery in Gdańsk (1992), Art City Machine at Otwarte Atelier in Gdańsk (1993), and Energetische Konstruktion at Gallery K-18 in Kassel, Germany (1993).
    • In 1995, together with Rafał Ewertowski, Artur Kozdrowski, Jacek Niegoda, Maciej Sienkiewicz, and Piotr Wyrzykowski, he co-founded the Central Office of Technical Culture (CUKT).
    • From 2001 to 2008, he was involved with Kolonia Artystów in the Gdańsk Shipyard, where he conducted artistic and educational activities. At Gallery Mm, located in a former telephone exchange, he ran the project Youth of the Young City. In 2004, alongside Sylwester Gałuszka, he founded the Free Studio PGR_art.
    • He is also the initiator of educational workshops such as The Touch of Art (Kolonia Artystów), Land of Creativity, and The Wanderers (CSW Łaźnia), aimed at promoting contemporary art among marginalised communities.
    • He is currently employed as Curator for Education at the Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art. Together with Alicja Jelińska, he runs the Kolonia Teraz Foundation.
