Lyudmila Alexeeva: Stages of dissent (part 1 & 2)

directed by Kirył and Ksenia Sacharnow, USA 2015, 30' (English friendly)

The protagonist recalls the repressions of 1937, a report by Khrushchev from 1956 and recent political trials in Russia. Alexyeyeva was the Chairwoman of the Moscow Helsinki Group, a legend of the dissident movement and, until her death in 2018, one of the most important figures in the Russian human rights movement. Alexeyeva talks about the stages of shaping dissident thinking in the Soviet Union and Russia, the historical role of those who publicly express their opposition and compassion, about fear and courage, facts and conclusions.
