Apocalypse Now
Francis Ford Coppola’s cult masterpiece that won Palme d’Or is now available in a restored 4K version at three special screenings at U–jazdowski Cinema.
This version has not been distributed in Poland and, according to the author, is definitive. As Coppola said himself, ‘The audience will be able to see, hear and feel this film how I always hoped it could be – from the first “bang” to the final whimper’.
Apocalypse Now is a loose adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s classic short story Heart of Darkness, set in 1969 during the Vietnam War. The film shows the journey of a Special Forces Captain (Willard) through the violent combat zones of Vietnam. The goal of his secret mission is to eliminate Colonel Kurtz, who has established a ruthless dictatorship. As Willard travels through the madness and absurdities of American involvement in the war, he becomes increasingly drawn to the jungle itself, its primal mystique and immense power...
The film features American film stars Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Martin Sheen, Dennis Hopper, Laurence Fishburne and Harrison Ford. It received eight nominations at the Oscars, two of which turned into statuettes (for best cinematography and best sound), won three Golden Globes, two BAFTAs and many other awards, including the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Above all, however, the film boasts a large fanbase around the world.
