Day and Night
[Dzień i noc], directed by Katarzyna Machałek and Łukasz Machowski, Poland 2022, 90' (English friendly)
-
Day and Night takes us to Roztocze: a wild, forest land in the east of Poland, where magical rituals and folk beliefs have been present in the lives of local people for generations. There, you can still meet old women living in blue huts, shamans perform the ritual of pouring hot wax, and marshes hide the souls of ancestors. The women of Roztocze, despite many hardships, have always stuck together. They are united by a passion for folk singing and mutual tenderness.
- Day and Night are two stories about female friendship and the magic that accompanies it. The unique form of a hybrid narrative, combining fiction with documentary observation, allows for an original story about the women’s youth and old age, about the passing of time and the community that carries on. A true mosaic of life.
- The world premiere of the film took place at the Riga International Film Festival.
