Fantastic Matt Parey – Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

The documentary is an attempt to capture the phenomenon of Maciej Parowski, the editor behind the success of several generations of Polish fantasy writers. We watch his biography depicted against the backdrop of a turbulent history: from the struggles against the PRL, through leading the largest literary magazine through the period of democratic transition, to the birth of the internet and the decline of print. Maciej’s story is told by his colleagues, family members and science fiction experts. In animated sequences, Parowski’s comic alter ego comments their memories with humour and poetry. Matt Parey is a quiet secondary character such as Alfred from Batman, without whom the main characters could not function effectively.
