Limbo, starring Simon Baker, famous for the TV series The Mentalist, is not only a gripping film noir, but also a meaningful portrayal of the daily discrimination and injustices experienced by Indigenous Australians.
Travis Hurley (played by Simon Baker) is a burnt-out detective fighting his own demons. He arrives in a remote mining town in South Australia to investigate an unsolved case that shocked the inhabitants of this peculiar place twenty years ago.
It was the mysterious murder of the Aboriginal girl Charlotte Hayes. The perpetrator was never caught, and the cursory investigation was terminated quickly. However, Travis doesn’t give up, although the locals don’t find it obvious to collaborate with a white police officer. The protagonist reaches out to the victim’s broken family, living witnesses and the lone brother of the main suspect, gaining a new perspective on the events from long ago.
The truth slowly begins to unveil in this intimate story about coping with loss and the approach of the justice system to Indigenous Australians.
