It may be wonderful but is it really mine? – such is the question faced by Joanna (Agata Buzek), the protagonist of Łukasz Grzegorzek's comedy of manners. A caring daughter, a laid-back mother, a popular teacher, a cool wife – she is perfect in each of these roles. And for a long time, she hasn't felt like herself in any of them. That’s why “Jo” leads a double life and has a secret which she doesn’t share with anyone. Because if they found out, it would be the end of everything that seems so wonderful in her world.
Grzegorzek's warm, witty and daring film is the story of a woman who no longer wants to be a good girl. But will she have enough courage to rebel, shake the foundations of her marriage, lose her reputation and reach for what she really cares about? Many women who have sacrificed a piece of themselves on the altar of others' expectations will see their reflection in the character sketched with empathy and phenomenally played by Agata Buzek. However, the heroine of My Wonderful Life does not feel like a victim – she takes risks, makes mistakes and dances until she falls.
Set in the picturesque town of Nysa, the film reminds us that real life is not somewhere else, but wherever we try to be happy on our own terms.
