About Endlessness
[Om det oändliga], directed by Roy Andersson, Sweden / Germany / Norway / France 2019, 76'
The new film by Roy Andersson, one of the most original European directors, winner of the Silver Lion at the 76th Venice International Film Festival and the Best Director award at the 2020 Dublin International Film Festival. A touching reflection on human life with all its beauty and cruelty, glory and banality. Hitler’s bunker, a psychiatrist’s office, a war-torn city of Cologne, a town street, a plain bench on a hill. We are guided through a series of meticulously composed episodes by the gentle voice of the Narrator, inspired by Scheherazade from One Thousand and One Nights. Throughout this journey, we encounter a priest going through a crisis of faith, two lovers floating above a city to an atmospheric music, young girls dancing in the street, and a man who fears for his savings. Their stories seem unrelated, but are they?
