Non-Fiction
[Doubles vies], directed by Olivier Assayas, France 2018, 108'
The latest film from Olivier Assayas (Sils Maria, Personal Shopper) is playing with the concept of fidelity. In Non-Fiction, it regards both a few people cheating on each other, a perverse relationship of fiction to reality, as well as the technological revolution that demands that we abandon old habits. In a rapidly changing world, e-books are taking over paper books, while young mistresses – aging wives, and TV series – over films. Only one thing stays the same: that which is new always arouses us the most.
