- New film by Jane Campion. The protagonists of this bitter tale of love and forgiveness are two brothers, Phil and George, wealthy ranchers from Montana. Phil is a typical loner who lives in harmony with nature and is able to find a weak spot in every human. George has more warmth, empathy and pure human decency. Not surprisingly, he is the one that marries the widow Rose and becomes the stepfather to her son Peter. Phil finds his brother’s decision hard to accept, especially as he finds wicked satisfaction in mocking the woman and the boy. This, in turn, leads straight to a conflict of values that nobody expected.
