Howl’s Moving Castle

[Hauru no ugoku shiro], directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Japan 2004, 119'

Howl’s Moving Castle is one of the most famous animations by Miyazaki. This time the author takes the audience to a world full of contrasts, magic and steampunk technology to tell the story of a shy hat shop assistant Sophie. One day, the girl meets a mysterious man who rescues her from trouble using his magical powers. Jealous of the young man, the witch casts a terrible curse on Sophie, transforming her into a 90-year-old old woman. Looking for a way to remove the charm, the girl ends up in a moving castle of the wizard Howl. Together with him and his extraordinary companions, Sophie embarks on an incredible journey during which she discovers the power of friendship, courage and love. She finds that true beauty lies within the human spirit and that magic is everywhere.
