Little Nicholas – Happy as Can Be

[Le Petit Nicolas - Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour être heureux?], directed by Amandine Fredon and Benjamin Massoubre, France 2022, 82’

  • Screened at the Cannes Festival, an extraordinary animated film about the adventures of one of the most popular children’s characters of all time and his creators. One of them was René Goscinny, co-author of Asterix.
    • Full of humour, warmth and wisdom, it is a story about friendship, the power of imagination and finding an inexhaustible source of joy in life.
  • It all began long time ago in Paris, when a nice couple had a little boy named Nicholas. Not much is known about his early years, but the entire world heard about his school days! Together with a bunch of silly friends, Nicholas has mastered the art of driving not only his teachers but also his beloved parents, neighbours and even the shopkeepers crazy. Their adventures cause storms at school and at home, and arguments grow to the size of the Battle of Waterloo. Still, it is impossible not to love them, because they turn everything they touch into joy and laughter. This is, of course, thanks to Nicholas himself, with his flair for adventure and endless curiosity. The latter one day makes him sneak into the study of his creators, René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé, who tell him about their friendship, his childhood and how he came to life.
