Meeting with Ryszard Kluszczyński and Karolina Żyniewicz
The Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art invites to a meeting dedicated to the relationship between art and science.
Professor Ryszard Kluszczyński will give a lecture on the forms of interaction between art and science, their consequences for the contemporary image of the world of art, about what these interactions say about the state of contemporary culture as well as about the work of selected artists.
After the lecture, a talk with Professor Ryszard Kluszczyński and Karolina Żyniewicz, artist and researcher, will be led by Michał Matuszewski—curator of the cinema. Discussed shall be the interface between humanities and sciences as well as how these fields influence each other. What are the humanities’ expectations from science? What ideas and hopes do the humanities associate with them? Is the turn to the sciences a response to the "crisis of the humanities" (if it exists)? Can we speak about the fetishization of empirical, "scientific" methods in the humanities (and in art)?
- Ryszard Kluszczyński
- Professor (post-doctoral studies) of humanities, working at the Institute for Contemporary Culture at the University of Łódź. A professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, he also lectures at The Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź. He deals with new media art, experimental film and video art, the problems of cyberculture and the information and network society, as well as contemporary art theory and the avant-garde.
- Karolina Żyniewicz
- Artist, graduate of the Faculty of Visual Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, PhD student of Environmental Transdisciplinary PhD Studies in Culture and Nature at the Artes Liberales Faculty of the University of Warsaw. While carrying out artistic projects in biological laboratories, she simultaneously conducts ethnographic observations, trying to situate her research in the context of the Science and Technology Studies (STS) trend.
