Teo Hernández
Teo Hernández was a Mexican filmmaker associated with the countercultural artistic milieu of 1970s Paris and one of the founders of the avant-garde film group MétroBarbèsRochechouArt. His films move between ritualistic fascinations and the camera’s elemental, surging currents that fragment individual images. Hernández’s cinema is also intensely tactile, focused on the body — its movements and transformations. From the late 1960s until his death, he made over 100 films, most of them shot on Super 8 film.
During another screening organized by the Ćma Collective in collaboration with U–jazdowski Cinema, we will present two films by the Mexican filmmaker: L’eau de la Seine (1983), in which Hernández turns his camera toward the Seine to capture its rushing current, and Cristaux (1978), one of the four films in his “Passion Tetralogy,” drawing on an abundance of Christian symbolism.
