The Signs of Mr. Śliwka
directed by Urszula Morga & Bartosz Mikołajczyk, Polska 2025, 72'
- Against his family's expectations and despite losing an eye, Karol Śliwka leaves his village to study art in Warsaw. He decides to dedicate himself to graphic design. With his work, he populates communist Poland and defines the country's visual landscape. His designs do not hang in art galleries; instead, they are present in Polish homes, on Polish streets, in institutions, and in workplaces. At the same time, he leads an ordinary family life, which he passionately documents over the years. To this day, this immensely talented artist is considered one of the most important logo and sign designers in the world.
- The film Znaki Pana Śliwki (The Signs of Mr. Śliwka) is a kaleidoscope of archival materials and memories that unveil a fascinating portrait of both a man and an era—a journey through a changing Poland.
