film screening and discussion

Escape from the 'Liberty' Cinema

[Ucieczka z kina "Wolność"], directed by Wojciech Marczewski, Poland 1990, 87'

Together with the Art-house Cinemas Association, we invite you to a special screening of the film Escape from the 'Liberty' Cinema and a meeting with the director, Wojciech Marczewski.

The event is part of the 3rd Warsaw Art-house Cinema Week.

Take the opportunity to see one of the most important Polish films on the big screen and to meet the distinguished director (and screenwriter) Wojciech Marczewski. We will talk about pushing the boundaries of film realism, the freedom of the artist and the uneasy relationship between art and politics on both sides of the cinema screen.

Daybreak is being screened at the cinema Liberty. Suddenly, the film is interrupted by a rather unusual event: the characters on screen begin to rebel against their imposed roles and engage in a dialogue with the audience. The authorities react by sending a censor (played by Janusz Gajos) to deal with the unexpected situation…

The discussion will be moderated by Klara Da Costa (Pawlicka), Head of Cinema Department and Curator of the film programme at Cinema U-jazdowski.
