Fears
directed by Łukasz Ronduda and Łukasz Gutt, Poland 2021, 90'
Awarded with Golden Lions at the Gdynia Film Festival, Fears is based on real events from the life of the colourful and contradictory figure of Daniel Rycharski, a committed Catholic fighting for the spiritual renewal of his community, and a deeply religious LGBT person, who seamlessly connected faith with the rainbow. Daniel (Dawid Ogrodnik) is an artist, a Catholic and an activist. The buildings in his hometown are decorated with his impressive murals, his sculptures are exhibited in reputable galleries in Warsaw, and installations such as an illuminated chapel that greets the passers-by with the residents’ voices serve the local community. His trademark is a sweatshirt with rainbow stripes. As a deeply religious Catholic, Daniel is involved in spiritual matters. He believes that the church should not be a place of exclusion and that there is room for everyone in his community, regardless of their worldview or personal choices. As a result of dramatic events, Daniel takes up a courageous fight to defend his values and decides to crack down on homophobia in his hometown.
