- The new production by the director Mohammad Rasoulof, persecuted by the Iranian regime, won the Golden Bear, Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and Guild Film Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2020. Every country where the law sanctions the most serious crimes with the death penalty needs people to carry out the sentence. There Is no Evil is about those people, who face unimaginable dilemmas. The film is structured as a novel and consists of four stories. Their protagonists are connected by a mystery and a dramatic decision they must make, which not only will impact their lives, but also the people around them. The Iranian director returns in his newest film to the themes that brought upon him the wrath of the authorities, limiting not only artistic but also civic freedom. Rasoulof created a harrowing story composed of silent dramas as a strong statement against the death penalty.
