Weronika Zalewska
  • How do we remember the political and economic transformation, and who decides which stories get told? On 24 June, we invite you to Pracownia for a meeting with Weronika Zalewska an interdisciplinary artist, poet, lecturer, and organiser. The event is open to everyone, from those working in the arts and culture sector to anyone who is simply curious about contemporary art and would like to learn more about its makers.

    • In her practice, Weronika Zalewska works primarily with video and text, bringing together socio-historical reflection and poetry. She is interested in social and political change and its impact on communities, languages, and ways of building relationships with the state, with one another, and through forms of solidarity that cross geographical and experiential boundaries.

  • During the meeting, we will discuss her artistic, curatorial, and educational work, as well as her recent project Archive of Hesitations, which represented Poland at the Malta Biennale in 2025. The project grew out of the artist’s memories of the early 2000s and her experience of growing up in the shadow of media narratives shaped by the post-socialist transformation. The installation juxtaposes a fictional game show, Everything Is Clear, with archival footage from the Educational Film Studio, exploring tensions between individual memory and dominant narratives of reality.

    • Weronika Zalewska graduated from the Autonomous Design programme at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and from the Faculty of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She currently co-runs the Social Film Studio at the Academy of Art in Szczecin together with Karolina Breguła, while living and working in Warsaw.

  • Her work has been presented at institutions including Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, and the Vilnius Performance Art Biennial. She also co-creates initiatives supporting experimental film and video art in Poland, engages in curatorial and literary projects, and co-organises events dedicated to culture, memory, and practices of solidarity.

  • {Live}
    • Every week, we meet live with artists to talk about art: creative processes, works, and current experiences.
      • We host both artists who have previously taken part in Ujazdowski Castle’s programme and those making their debut. In this series, we would like to focus on individual approaches and artistic practices.
  • Why take part?
    • The events will be recorded for archival purposes, and the recordings will be made available online through the Mediateka.
      • In times of tensions and crises, thinking and talking together about contemporary art  which responds to today’s challenges in unconventional ways  helps strengthen social resilience. Art is not only the object  just as important are the process, the thinking, the emotions, and the relationships that accompany it. The meetings offer a closer look at how art is created and, most importantly, who creates it.
      •
  • The meetings are open to everyone, from people working professionally in culture and art, to those who are curious about artists and their work, or simply want to talk about art.
    • We do our best to make the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art accessible to everyone  we would like to adapt the event to you and your needs. To help us do that, please contact our accessibility coordinator: dostepnosc@u-jazdowski.pl, no later than the Monday before the event.
