Meeting with Monika Mamzeta
  • We invite you to a meeting with Monika Mamzeta a visual artist, sculptor, and performer who has been exploring the relationships between the body, identity, and the social constructions of femininity for over two decades. Her practice encompasses sculpture, installation, photography, video, and performance.
  • In her works, she uses self-portraiture and the female body as a field of symbolic play a site where questions of visibility, power, and representation intersect. She combines her experience as a visual artist with a long-standing professional practice in the field of intellectual property law.
    • Monika Mamzeta (the pseudonym of Monika Maria Zielińska) holds a doctorate in fine arts and is a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She has created numerous projects in which art becomes a tool for feminist reflection and social change. Her works often address issues of visibility, power, and identity, creating a space for critical reflection on the image, the body, and mechanisms of representation, while engaging in a feminist critique of social structures. She is also the author of posters and theoretical texts for women’s movements and feminist organisations.
  • For her project Idzie RAK… będzie ZNAK [Itsy-bitsy CANCER… leaves you with a SCAR], part of the Oncotryptic cycle, she was nominated for the title of Superheroine of Wysokie Obcasy magazine (2020). In 2025, she received the Main Prize of the ING Polish Art Foundation during the Warsaw Gallery Weekend.
    • She has also co-founded the collective Inne Towarzystwo and initiates and curates numerous projects that merge art and activism, including Paulina, Skutki Uboczne [Side Effects], and Revenge Dress. Her works are part of private collections and in the collection of the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. They are also available through Secondary Archive and on the platform Cifra.com.
  • She is a member of the Society of Authors ZAiKS.

  • {Live}
    • Every week, we meet live with artists to talk about art: creative processes, works, and current experiences.

      • We host both artists who have previously taken part in Ujazdowski Castle’s programme and those making their debut. In this series, we would like to focus on individual approaches and artistic practices.

    • Why take part?
      • In times of tensions and crises, thinking and talking together about contemporary art  which responds to today’s challenges in unconventional ways  helps strengthen social resilience. Art is not only the object  just as important are the process, the thinking, the emotions, and the relationships that accompany it. The meetings offer a closer look at how art is created and, most importantly, who creates it.
        • The meetings are open to everyone, from people working professionally in culture and art, to those who are curious about artists and their work, or simply want to talk about art.
      • The events will be recorded for archival purposes, and the recordings will be made available online through the Mediateka.
  •
  • We do our best to make the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art accessible to everyone  we would like to adapt the event to you and your needs. To help us do that, please contact our accessibility coordinator, Ewa Doan: e.doan@u-jazdowski.pl, no later than the Monday before the event.
