featuring Maya Amrami and Marc Provisor

Maya Amrami

is a multidisciplinary artist and doctoral student at University of the Arts London College of Communication. She holds an MA in fine-art printmaking from Middlesex University and a BA in Fashion Design from Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Tel Aviv. With a career spanning for over a decade in London as a fashion designer and art director, Maya's work seamlessly combined textile dressmaking, an emphasis on bodily performance, and digital media. In recent years, Maya has dedicated her efforts to her doctoral project, blending academic writing and artistic praxis to create Golem self-portraits on Instagram. These Golems have been showcased in various academic conferences and exhibitions across the UK. Following the events of October 7, Maya's Golem works have taken an unexpected turn which she will explore in her upcoming presentation.

Marc Provisor

  • was born in Philadelphia, USA. In 1982, he became an Israeli soldier fighting against terrorists in Lebanon. The war had a profound effect on him, but a friend gave him a sketch book and a set of watercolours, and it was through painting that he was able to find some release. In 1985, Marc decided to study fine art at the School of Visual Arts, New York, and in Parsons School of Design under Simon Dinerstein. He was also taken as a private student by the artist Marc Klionsky.
  • Working with oils, acrylics and graphite, Marc paints landscapes. He began selling at exhibitions, which enabled him to focus full time on his art.
  • Marc took a break from the art world in the 90s, returning to the world of counter-terror security. The situations he found himself in were so overwhelming that he was unable to paint, they were too painful to express via art.
  • He returned to art in 2019, his subject matter diversified, taking a different turn to convey his experiences of fighting terror and preventing violence.
  • Since 2020, he has exhibited in several exhibitions and presenting talks on Art in the Shadow of Terror.
  • He works and exhibits in both the USA and Israel.

Manick Govinda

independent writer, artists mentor, lecturer, curator and arts consultant. He has written for The Critic, Index on Censorship, Arts Professional, Open Democracy and Spiked. He is the co-curator, alongside Agnieszka Kolek, of Culture Tensions, a new series of public discussions and conversations at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art. Manick describes himself as an Eclecticist, open to different ideas and thoughts, open to unresolved contradictions. He was cancelled in 2019 by many English arts institutions for his gender critical comments and humour on social media and for his vocal criticism against the European Union.

Agnieszka Kolek

artist, curator and co-founder of the Passion for Freedom Art Festival in London. Through supporting artists forbidden to exhibit their art, she exposes the silence of many and challenges the comfortable position of those who inhibit safe spaces. Agnieszka survived the terror attack in Copenhagen in 2015. She continued the meeting on art and blasphemy after the attack by saying: They not only want to kill us. They want us to stop talking, so we should continue.
