Cancel Russian Culture!?

featuring Andriej Moskwin and Tiffany Jenkins

Prof. Andriej Moskwin, 

was born in Belarus. He is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Theatre and Drama Studies in Central and Eastern Europe at the University of Warsaw. Dr Moskwin is also Editor-in-chief of the journal Theatre Studies of the Central and Eastern Europe, and has previously written about art for ARTeon magazine. He has organised a number of academic conferences on Belarusian, Slavic, and Russian culture.

 

Tiffany Jenkins, PhD

is a writer and researcher, whose most recent book, Keeping Their Marbles: How the Treasures of the Past Ended Up in Museums and Why They Should Stay There , delved into the complex forces shaping the escalating debate over repatriating museum artefacts and rectifying historical injustices. The Sunday Times described it as “an outstanding achievement, clear-headed, wide-ranging and incisive.” Dr Jenkins is also the author of Contesting Human Remains in Museum Collections: The Crisis of Cultural Authority, and editor of Political Culture: Soft Interventions and Nation Building. For over 5 years, she was a columnist for the Scotsman; her other writing credits include The Financial Times, The Guardian, Observer, and The Spectator. She has written and presented several programmes for BBC Radio 4, including “Beauty and the Brain,” which explored what science can tell us about art. She also hosts the podcast Behind the Scenes at the Museum, which examines the controversies rocking the cultural world.  Dr Jenkins has also acted as a consultant advisor for a variety of arts organisations in Britain and the Nordic countries. She holds a PhD is in sociology and a BSC in art history.

 

Manick Govinda

independent writer, artists mentor, lecturer, curator and arts consultant. He has written for The Critic, Index on Censorship, Arts Professional, Open Democracy and Spiked. He is the co-curator, alongside Agnieszka Kolek, of Culture Tensions, a new series of public discussions and conversations at Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art. Manick describes himself as an Eclecticist, open to different ideas and thoughts, open to unresolved contradictions. He was cancelled in 2019 by many English arts institutions for his gender critical comments and humour on social media and for his vocal criticism against the European Union.

 

Agnieszka Kolek

artist, curator and co-founder of the Passion for Freedom Art Festival in London. Through supporting artists forbidden to exhibit their art, she exposes the silence of many and challenges the comfortable position of those who inhibit safe spaces. Agnieszka survived the terror attack in Copenhagen in 2015. She continued the meeting on art and blasphemy after the attack by saying: They not only want to kill us. They want us to stop talking, so we should continue.
