Closed Gardens of Solitude
Agata Konarska, Agata Lankamer, Adam Martyniak, Cezary Wicher
- The exhibition will feature two projects: Gardens of Solitude, a video installation by Agata Lankamer and Agata Konarska and Closed Gardens, a collection of sculptural objects by Adam Martyniak.
- In their work, the artists take on the figure of the incel as a modern escapee whose home are virtual worlds. An incel is a person considered to be part of the world of chauvinism, living with a sense of rejection by society and in (unwanted) celibacy. The artists examine the motivations of incels with empathy and without judgment. In the video installation they created, the audience visits an (anti-)utopian garden – a symbol of the incel’s fantasy and frustration, a place of his virtual loneliness.
- In turn, Adam Martyniak presents sculptural objects created with wheel tires made of petroleum-based materials. They look like plant organisms equipped with completely non-plant features and functions. In the project, the artist continues his research into dark ecology and the recultivation of materials.
