Magdalena Franczuk
The Book of Wonder
Magdalena Franczuk
born in 1992 in Wrocław. She is a fifth year student of Photography at The Leon Schiller National Film School in Łódź; she is also a director of short films as well as a writer. She deals with creative photography; her photographic style synthesizes her extensive inspirations from painting, film, theatre, literature, as well as archives. The artist collects antiques and biblio-phile copies of books; these traces of the past actually inspire her the most. Franczuk received a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2015). Winner of the competition Dolina Kreatywna, czyli czego szuka młoda sztuka (Creative Valley, that is, what is young art looking for) organized by TVP Kultura (2014), finalist of the international competition Slideluck War-saw (2014), and has been awarded three times at the International Photography Awards (2014, 2012). Not to mention, she is also a laureate of competitions in journalism and dramaturgy. Her photographs and videos have been shown at numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad; the magazine Vogue Italia not only took notice of her but also distinguished her. In 2015, her work could be seen at the TIFF Festival in Wrocław, the International Interphoto Festival of Photog-raphy in Białystok, the OFFoto Photography Festival in Opole, and the International Festival of Photography in Łódź. The photography of Magdalena Franczuk transports the viewer to the sen-sual world of fairy tales - sometimes sweet and idyllic, other times dark and full of secrets. This is a world governed by its own rules. Religious and spiritual elation mix with concealed desires, innocence with sin, pain with pleasure.
