Witold Modrzejewski

Father’s Dream

Witold Modrzejewski’s implementation is a reconstruction of personal utopia, dreams of a perfect home, located somewhere on the top of a hill, surrounded by woods, near water, away from other human settlements. The artist’s father was creating this vision for eight years, looking for the ideal place to erect his abode. Nothing, however, ever met his expectations; there was always something wrong. Eventually, his son offered to help him in visualizing the dream. The result of one year’s worth of cooperation is a series of layouts and images of the perfect place, at least in theory, for a person from the metropolis to reside in, who has had enough of living in an urban beehive. Apart from the visualization of the land and the house, situations arose that constituted a reason for meetings and conversations between father and son.

Personal and oneiric, but at the same time, paradoxically, a very universal project of Modrzejewski’s, which is a story about searching for the impossible, about the formation of dreams that don’t stand a chance. It is also a peculiar history of human aspirations and desires, whose life is bound to a big city, but constantly wants to run away from it.
