The Winners of Project Room Awards 2020 – Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art has been supporting emerging Polish artists for many years now. Each year, six artists have the opportunity to present a solo exhibition within the Project Room series. All the artworks are created especially for this space. The two most interesting exhibitions would then receive additional financial awards. This year, the awards go to all participants of the Project Room 2020 programme. Each of them will receive a prize of 9 000 PLN.

The Winners of Project Room 2020 Awards are: Kornelia Dzikowska, Jan Baszak, Adelina Cimochowicz, Piotr Bruch, Sebastian Sebulec and Marek Wodzisławski. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the temporary closures of Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, all exhibitions scheduled in the Project Room 2020 series were presented to the public. Their virtual versions are still available online at www.u-jazdowski.pl.

“From its beginning, the aim of the Project Room programme was to create equal conditions for work and development for all participating artists” – says the Project Room series’ curator, Michał Grzegorzek. “The year 2020 has clearly shown that we are not all equal when faced with the pandemic and the associated information chaos and growing conflicts and distrust towards others. Over the past twelve months, the existing divisions and differences have increased further and have also influenced the dynamics of work on individual Project Room exhibitions. Thus, the programmes’ competition formula, indicating a clear hierarchy among the young participants, seemed to be an inadequate tool for supporting them in the current circumstances. Because of this, we decided to award all participants of the Project Room 2020 programme in the same way” – Grzegorzek explained. “With this gesture, we would like to express our recognition of all the participating artists and their talent, determination, and thoughtfulness.”
