Silesian Gothic Wins the Gdynia Literary Prize
Anouk Herman’s poetry collection Silesian Gothic has won the 20th Gdynia Literary Prize.
The volume takes readers on a journey through Silesia’s landscapes, emblems, and landmarks, fitlered through a queer and feminist lens. Herman transforms post-industrial spaces and forgotten places into a map of new experiences, creating a language of resistance and emancipation in which tradition meets with a reimagined future. The result is a bold, experimental collection in which Silesia becomes a site of new symbolism, free from imposed patterns.
The Gdynia Literary Prize is one of Poland’s most important literary honours. Silesian Gothic is also shortlisted for the Wrocław Silesius Poetry Award and the Lublin Literary Award.
The book, published by Girls and Queers to the Front together with the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, is available in the Ujazdowski online bookstore.
