{Common Kitchen}: Maqluba
Culinary workshop with the GALAS collective and guests with experience of forced migration
Together with the GALAS collective (residents of the Common Field project), we invite you to a cooking workshop led by invited guests who share a common experience of forced migration.
The {Common Kitchen} is an experience of sharing knowledge about the ancestral and daily lives of people who share the experience of migration and exile. The project's guests invite us to explore the cultural roots from which the customs accompanying food in their native communities, now affected by oppression, grow to reveal that each of their meals today is linked to a story of survival and resistance.
We will come together in this space to celebrate diversity and facilitate their solace, support and strengthen their social resilience. In addition to sharing food, we will exchange stories, foster mutual empathy and sustain our collective memory - diasporic and local - to create understanding that challenges stereotypes and builds solidarity.
Dani and Omar from Gaza will guide us during the fifth and final workshop in preparing a Palestinian adaptation of the Arab dish maqluba.
“Cześć! We are two friends from Gaza with a passion for authentic Palestinian cuisine. Having lived in Poland for almost two years, we wanted to bring a taste of our homeland to our new home. At Alkarama, we are dedicated to serving you rich and flavorful vegan dishes that represent the heart and soul of Gaza. Maqlouba, a beloved dish from Gaza, holds a special place in our hearts. This traditional Palestinian meal, known as "upside-down" rice, is a beautiful blend of rice and vegetables, all cooked together and then flipped onto a serving platter to reveal its stunning layers”.
The event {Common Kitchen} was created with the support of the Małgosia Braunek Foundation Be and Krzysztof Nowinski.
