performative residency: January—February 2019

Alex Baczyński-Jenkins (Poland)

Alex Baczyński-Jenkins

lives and works in both Warsaw and London. In his artistic practice, he uses the politics of gesture – both in the individual and social dimension – as a method for highlighting affective and queer references. He is a co-founder of Kem, a feminist-queer collective operating in Warsaw, focused on new choreographic and quasi-choreographic methods.

The artist’s works have been presented, among others, in individual exhibitions at the Foksal Gallery Foundation (Warsaw, 2018) and Chisenhale Gallery (London, 2017), as well as in group exhibitions – Serralves Foundation (Porto, 2018); Migros Museum of Contemporary Art (Zurich, 2018); Palais de Tokyo (Paris, 2017); Museum of Modern Art (Warsaw, 2017); Swiss Institute Contemporary Art (New York, 2016); Muzeum Sztuki (Łódź, 2016), and during Basel Liste (2014). Baczyński-Jenkins is the Winner of the Arts Foundation Award and Frieze Art Awards 2018. As well, he has participated in the Home Workspace programme of Ashkal Alwan in Beirut.

As part of his residency at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Alex Baczyński-Jenkins will work on a new performance.
