Francis Thorburn (United Kingdom)

Francis Thorburn

Born in England working in the fields of performance and sculpture. He graduated (with 1st class honours) from Camberwell College, University of the Arts, London. Under the title of Minister of Alternative Transport he has been developing a series of processional performances, which use sculptural devices (vehicles) to head the procession. He wishes to fascinate and capture the audiences’ attention with the absurd and the extravagant, through ritualised action and the epic machines. He has recently done projects at Tate Britain, Tate Modern. Artist participated in group exhibition OUT OF STH vol.3 at BWA Awangarda in Wroclaw.

During his residency at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art he created the Machine # 11 – amphibious, a vehicle designed to travel on land and on water, which is built from recycled materials.
