Residency as part of the Common Field project
Julia Ciunowicz is a textile artist, craftswoman, and researcher working at the intersection of practice and theory of socially and ecologically engaged art. A graduate of the Faculty of Visual Culture Management at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and Social Arts at the University of Warsaw. In her artistic work, using the broadly defined medium of fabric and plants, she explores themes of folklore, women’s art, the relationship between man and nature, and the social aspects of textile production. In her research work, she focuses on the history of ecologically engaged art. For years, she has been exploring the topic of permaculture gardening and herbalism in both theory and practice, running a community garden and numerous workshops. On a daily basis, she works with textiles and fibres, running a natural dyeing, weaving, and basketry studio called Wild Weaves.
