Lore Smolders (Belgium)

The work of Lore Smolders (BE °1987, lives and works in Brussels) plays with notions of readability and the desire to understand and be understood. She has worked on a wide range of topics such as ancient signs, fortune telling, the prison system, etiquette, social choreographies, and, more recently, strategies used in therapy. In her artistic practice, she seeks to expose and deconstruct invisible (power) systems through the interface between drawing and language, book and installation. She studied at LUCA School of Arts in Gent and developed her practice through residencies at ZK/U (Berlin), AIR 3331 (Tokyo), Frans Masereel Center Belgium (Kasterlee) and through projects at NICC Brussels, Kunsthal Gent, Kunsttempel Kassel, Drawing Centre Diepenheim, Les Brasseurs (Liège), Chinese European Art Center (Xiamen), Loods 12 (Wetteren), croxhapox (Gent)...
