Luis Eligio (Cuba)

Luis Eligio 

works in various fields of art such as: performance, dance, visual arts and community arts. He is also an experimental music composer, a rapper and a poet. He is a founder of Contextatario Art Group (1997), which socially engaged activities were censored by the Cuban government. He is a co-creator and artistic director of a poetry festival "Poetry Endless World" (1999-2013 city of Alamar, Havana, Cuba). His works were widely presented in Cuba and abroad. In 2010 he has participated in Liverpool Biennial. Works and lives in Havana, Cuba.

Luis Eligio is a member of a multidisciplinary art collective Omni-Zonafranca. Omni-Zonafranca was founded 17 years ago in Cuba. It is known for its unusual actions in public space and experimental concerts which bring together visual arts, music, poetry social activism. Omni-Zonafranca is recognized nationally and internationally for their interdisciplinary and social approach. The group's activities in Cuba are higly censored, controlled and banned for their social impact and engagement in fighting for human rights and freedom of expression.

Members of Omni-Zonafranca – Luis Eligio and David Escalona who are current residents at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art – will present some of their latest work with the group in music, video, photography and performances on Friday August 9th, 2013 at 6 p.m. 

Luis Eligio and David Escalona will perform together ZONA OMNI FRANCA: ALTERNATIVE SHOW MAKINA TOTAL FREE in the frames of Zielony Jazdów Festival at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art on Saturday August 10th, 2013 at 9 p.m. The admission to both events is free.
