residency: March–May 2013

Péter Szabó (Romania / Hungary)

  • Péter Szabó
    • was born in Targu-Mures, Romania (1978), but lives and works in Budapest, Hungary. He is a founding member of the Protokoll Studio in Cluj, Romania (2000), and of such noise-music bands as Alergische Platze and Ovekk_Finn.
      • His work is distinguished by an analytical interest in everyday reality and critical reflection on the present. Most of the issues he touches upon in his works come from his personal micro-environment: family and everyday life.
    • The artist’s present art practice focuses on the social and economic value of art, questioning the working method of the art industry. His recurrent themes (work, free time, rights, state, money, economy, community, family, education) are elaborated through public-art events, community building and educational projects. Working on peripheral issues makes him reflect on his professional and social position.
      • Lately, through his art practice he has been reflecting on the current social-political changes within his environment. These works are documentary in nature, as they are built on broader historical view and employ the recycling working method.
This residency was possible thanks to support of the City of Warsaw, The International Visegrad Fund and The Studio of Young Artists’ Association.
