Gendai. Japanese Contemporary Art. Between the Body and Space
A richly illustrated catalogue of the exhibition of contemporary Japanese art held at the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in 2000. It presents the work of artists whose work focuses on the sphere of corporeality and the contexts and spaces in which the subject of the body manifests itself in contemporary Japanese culture. The exhibition, which comprised works by thirteen Japanese artists and one artistic group, was given a short, simple title: Gendai. The word for "contemporary" in Japanese is one of the colloquial terms used by the Japanese, somewhat casually.
